Postings versus Private Messages (PMs)
When responding within a thread, you should consider a few things:
(1) Is my answer aimed at the topic of the thread?
(2) Is my answer or comment for an individual person and not really for the public?
If your comment/answer is of interest to everyone, but not related to the topic of the thread, then you might want to consider creating a new thread rather than responding.
If your answer is more a comment to another person, and not really about the thread, then send a private message to that person instead of responding to the thread. If you comment is about "How" someone posted or "How" they said something, then again, you might want to send a private message instead of posting to the forum.
If you are posting a message that disagrees with someone else's answer, this is fine. PLEASE, however, focus on the technical topic and how you would do it. Don't focus on telling the person you disagree, rather show how you would do it. Let the code, technology, or information show how you differ. Don't make negative comments towards the other person. That doesn't add anything to the thread or the conversation.
Okay, I'll get off my soap box now and get back to focusing on more important things...
Brad!
