Win2k is better than WinXP on Multimedia?

I have two coputers. One is 466MHz 128M Ram with Win2k. Another one is 880MHz 256M Ram with WinXP installed. I played VCD (Video CD, the big .dat file) with Windows Media Player. The 2000 one does much better than the XP one.
XP is supposed to be better when it comes to multimedia. Are there anything I can do about it?
The movie on the XP machine is not smooth, while it goes quite well on the 2000 machine.
Sorry for posting in this group. I believe all VC experts are good at computers in general.
Thanks

XP is crap for everything. On it is much slower for everything and less stable. Microsoft took a great OS (Windows 2000) and suceeded in turning it back into Windows 98. Sure XP is marginally more stable than Windows 98, but its still not fit for anyone to use.
