How to remove icons in XP

Maybe this is obvious but...

How can I remove the icons in the task bar's "clock area" in XP?

With "clock area" I want to say the icons that appear at the right bottom corner of the screen, in the task bar. (has this area any name?)

I have some icons I want to remove but I don't know how...

This area is called the Notification area.
To hide icons, just right-click within this area and select 'Properties' from the menu that appears. You will then be presented with a dialog with two tabs - Taskbar and Start Menu. On the Taskbar tab there is a section at the bottom about the Notification area. Click the 'Customize' button and you can choose whether to display each icon individually.

Hope this helps

Thank you Pete. I have a question.

If I remove the icons, that means that the programs will not be loaded the next time I reboot the computer?

For example, I have the Messenger Icon. If I quit this icon, Will the messenger not be loaded or will be loaded but "hidden"?

Ah - it appears I misunderstood your original question. The procedure I described merely changes whether the icon is displayed or not - it doesn't affect whether the program is running.
If you actually want to stop Windows Messenger running, right-click the icon, select 'Open', then look at the Preferences tab on the dialog which appears. There is an option to run the app when Windows starts. Just uncheck this and you should be ok.
Most other apps which appear in this area have a similar preference.

If the icons appear, and the programs are automaticaly runned, there should be some registry somewhere about this programs.

Can't be removed using some Windows XP tool ?

I don't know of any tools to remove the apps, but there should be an option somewhere in each such app to allow you to remove it. I would recommend that you ask the app to remove itself, as it should know how to do the job properly.
