starting win2000 please help!
Can somebody tell me how to get about this problem? Please!!!

I dont know what happened to my system. Soon after i start win2k and when i try to open "My Computer" it takes a long time to open. In fact it takes a long time to open any program as soon as i boot to win2k. I tried disabling all start up programs and even uninstalled my antivirus software. But the problem still persists.
Can somebody tell me how to get about this problem? Please!!!

what sp are you on on win2k.is this an upgrade, or a clean install.
what are the computer specs, ram and speed.
does this slowness persist when you open other programs or are they ok?
have you run a defragment of the hardrive?
how big is the hard drive, and how much room is left on it.
have you checked the event logs for warnings?

One item that will cause this is if you are mapping to network (shared) drives. This gets especially slow for Web Shares or any share which is not currently available.Hope this helps...

Don't forget the hardware. It could be a problem with hardware. Did you installed any device recently or any driver for a device (scaner, memory stick, digital camera...) ?Also check out if you have any hardware conflict.
