P4 Ht

Hi,
I've got PC with abit IS7E and P4 - 2.4 Ghz HT fsb 800. All settings on board and bios are set to HT processor. Also bios during start shows 2,4 HT processor. Alas in Win2k (all updates installed) task manager shows only one processor bar.

Why?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Check the device manager, does it show two CPUs installed?

Device manager does not show any processors at all!

Well...how many physical processor do you have installed? As I read it...one...so why should Windows display two?

Because it is Pentium 4 Hyper Thread processor and it should by showed by windows as two processors.

Cool...until now, I did not know that the task manager will display two CPU's if hyperthreading is enabled...maybe I should get rid of my pentium II PC to keep up with the latest technologies...

Anyway...Windows 2000 is not recommended in conjunction with hyperthreading, which should be disabled on these systems...for further information take a look at the following (http://www.intel.com/support/platform/ht/os.htm)...

Well...what should I say...support of Windows 2000 is (unfortunately) going to end (you cannot buy it any longer etc.), thus, I would simply imagine that they do not see any reason to provide support for that...

On the other side, I am not really sure about the hyperthreading technology on the other side. I did not special tests until now, however, we had a performance decrease of some of our modules while running under hyperthreading...

Yup, I have read about it. Anyway, I shall update my OS to WinXP ...and that is main reason why MS did not release any support for HT in Win2k ;)
