Smart card reader driver

Hello,
A driver sort of "introduces" the device (in your case the card reader) to the operating system, and provides an interface for you to operate it from the computer. Newer OS's automatically detect and install the hardware the moment you plug it in, as well as download whatever software is necessary, so the driver isn't necessary.
