just when I thought Ive heard them all

The following is a summary of this article (http://www.hotnews.ro/pp_articol_6623-Politia-Timis-trebuie-sa-l-ancheteze-pe-Dumnezeu.htm) (it's in Romanian).

The Timis Police Must Prosecute GOD

(Timis is the county whose capital is Timisoara)

The police and prosecuters from Timisoara are facing a case that goes beyond absurd. A convincted man from the Timisoara Jailhouse has issued a penal complain agains God and Romanian Orthodox Church.

Convicted for 20 years in jail for murder, Pavel Mircea, blames the Church for everything that went wrong in his life. So, he decided to go to the court of law. He asks for for a lawsuit against "so-called God, living in Heaven, represented in Romania by the Orthodox Church, and in Timisoara by the Romanian Mitropoly, for the felonies stated in the 215 article (deception), Article 221 (hiding), Article 246 (office abuse against people's interest - I haven't traslated this very well), Article 256 (accepting undeserved goods - accepting bribery), article 257 (influence traffic)".

(Sorry I'm not that familiar with English terms used in criminal cases).

Pavel Marcel explains that his baptise in the church was a signed contract with God (who he names "the offender"). In his opinion the "contract" had the purpose of keeping the Devil and the troubles away from his life.

"So far the offender did not honor the contract". The convicted man accuses God of receiving "payers and goods" for the return of sins forgiveness and avoiding troubles in life, which didn't happen.

In the end, he demands to be payed a fee of 2 million euros, because God has broken the contract.

Well, basically, that was my impression too. But you know, USA is not the only country of all possibilities. Romania is too. :D

are they really gonna pay him that much money??
Well, if they are going to prosecute God indeed, it will be a little hard to call him to testify. And even if they managed to do it, its said that money are the root of Evil and the Eye of the Devil, so paying him 2 million euros could broke their contract again. So, perhaps, God had learned his lesson, and won't pay the fee. :p

I haven't see that movie yet. But anyway, this is a real case, registered at the Courte of Justice in Timisoara.

The guy should have read & understood the contract before agreeing to it.

You can argue there is an implied contract in a baptism. But even if the court accepts that a contract exists, the contract states that the Respondent promised to protect the claimant in return for good behavior. Since the good behavior has not been forthcoming the Respondent is not bound by the contract. Case dismissed. ;)

The contract as such is that the plaintiffs sins are forgiven. There are no terms of the contract regarding any such protection implied or explicitly defined. The contract has obviously not been read and the plaintiff has no case. I move towards a case dismissal lest my client decides to take counter legal action.
