Links in Posts not working.

I'm not sure where to post this so I'm just going to start a thead.

I'm not able to access recommended links to other threads in post responses.

Is can mover around the board, but when posters recommend a link to this board or other websites the links just stall.

.. is there setting that I don't have set?

Does this link ( http://www.google.ro) works? If not than it might have to do with your security settings. What browser do you use?

This may sound silly/simple, but have you checked your pop-up blocker settings? Links in these types of forums open a new window.

I tought that most popup blockers won't block a new window in response to a mouse click, only in response to javascript popups.

I'm using IE 6 too and I don't have such a problem. No need to switch to FF for that.

Odd, I'm getting the same issue. I do notice it saying "Pop-ups were not blocked" when I click the link, but no window opens. Even when Shift-Clicking.

In fact, I can't force any link to open as a new window, even through right clicking.

I use Firefox by default, and it doesn't have this issue, but since you need to fix it, I won't suggest using Firefox, but instead, show you a possible solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281679/en-us

It fixed it for me. Didn't have to restart either for it to work.

Please let us know if it does -- or does not work.

Thanks,

Brad it didn't work.

I've tried everything.

Microsoft states it as one of it's 10 most common problems. Here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/IEtopten.mspx

At this point I've tried everything but I can't seem to find the following DLL

shdoc401.dll

I think that this DLL is only for the older version browsers.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

Well I was using Googles tool bar with my IE6. I removed it but I still can't get the hyperlinks in posts to work?

How ever, I am now trigger a blocked pop when I first exectute the link. But, even if I disable the pop up blocking and/or allow popus I still can't get the links to work?  .

?? I'm still working on it.

I'm going to try to reboot my system and then register all the DLL'S.

..if anyone can find out about the DLL that I just mentioned I would appreciate it.

I can't seem to find a download location and or a if it is part of IE6.

.. TIA

Windows will not operate without shdoc401.dll
Found that bit of information, but humorously enough, I didn't find the DLL at all on my Windows XP comp, and it runs fine.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shdoc401
You can supposedly download it there (didn't try it myself), but I think you may want to try other methods to fix it first before getting that file and trying it.

I assume you tried or were going to register all the DLLs, though the page I linked gave 7, whereas the one you linked gave 5 (I'd go for the larger number myself, since it fixed the problem for me).

If that doesn't work, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling IE6. That might fix it.

External links from vBulletin (and most forums) automatically open in a new window - hence the blocked popup. What happens when you disable it? I know it doesn't work, but what happens instead?

Since I had the same issue, I tried that. It just shows a box and says "Popups were not blocked" (image attached).

This wasn't just limited to pages trying to open in new windows, but even right-clicking a link and selecting "Open in New Window" wouldn't open a new window. I tried what I found on Microsoft and it fixed it, so now I get those windows popping up and "Open in New Window" works. I just don't use IE6.
