Winows 98 backup accessory
My uncle says that he can't use the Windows 98 backup accessory because file sizes for Windows 98 are limited to 16GB. Therefore a backup to disk fails.
It is surprising to me that the Windows 98 backup accessory is limited in this manner. Has anyone used the Windows 98 backup accessory to do a backup to disk when the output backup file is more than 16GB? Or can the Windows 98 backup accessory be used to backup to disk when the input data is more than 16GB?

Well, Windows 98 was made in 1998 when the largest hard drives weren't even that big yet. Everyone was still thinking, "How will I ever use 10GBs?"
Yet, it might not even be Windows 98 setting your uncle back. If he is using Windows 98, my guess is that his machine is an older model as well. Has he checked the documentation on his BIOS and motherboard? Some larger hard drives had to come with a floppy disk utility that would make old motherboards recognize larger hard drives.

Yes, I know that the BIOS can affect partition size but I am not aware of the BIOS affecting file size.
I did some more research and found that files in a FAT32 are limited to 4 GB (minus 2 bytes) in size. So unless the FAT32 has been revised recently, I will assume that that limitation still exists.
Yet I am still surprised that the Windows 98 backup tool can't backup to disk from partitions with more than 4 GB of data. So the question is if it can. I don't need guesses, though; I want someone that knows from using Windows 98.

Well, this limitation is per file not in total. You can have a FAT32 drive of 137GBs but a single file cannot exceed 4 GBs.

FAT32 "Supports drives up to 2 terabytes in size".
Yes, in theory this is true but even with utilities, I, nor my friends, nor my coworkers have ever gotten more than 137GBs on a single partition.
