Thank you. I'm honored to be a part of a group of such wonderful people as the MVP are. I am grateful to all those that contributed to this. Nothing would have been possible without this community, dev-archive, from where I learned so much, and I'm sure I'll continue to do so. I can only hope to continue to be able to give something back. I believe this community is one of a kind and it's absolutely great to be part of it. Thank you all.

I already congratulated Ovidu and Dragos, but I'll use this thread to do it "officially". ;) Dragos, "no amu sa traiesti mai ciocoflendare". Ovidiu, "bre, mvp-ul nu-i al tau, nici al copiilor tai, ci al urmasilor urmasilor tai". Please don't ask to translate. It doesn't make sense for non-Romanians. :p

What about the other MVPs that were supposed to be re-awarded (guido and john if I'm not mistaking)?

Once, long long time ago, when the ogres ruled the world and I was a child... I had a problem, a real problem, a problem of life and death.

The Good Fairy told me "Ovidiu, just make a gooooogle/groups search".

I made it, I found dev-archive, then cried: "Hey gurus, It's urgent! Please heeeeeeeeeelp!!!".

My life was saved.
Since then, day after day, year after year, I never left this wonderful site. I grew up and look!... now I'm a Microsoft MVP.
:)

Thank you everybody, friends!

It feels really nice to receive this distinction especially since it all came as a complete surprise. After all I spend my time on CG just to help & learn. Or viceversa. ;)

Should this be an Oscar like ceremony I would probably have a huge list of thanks and a nice suit. But since it is not, I have just one special nominalization and that is: to all the yet another simple/stupid/newbie question. :D

I've learned a lot from all the problems on dev-archive, either by reading the answers to them or trying to find answers for them.

Thx guys.

Hey, I can brag about this now. :D

I've just seen a short movie with Ovidiu being presented by Microsoft Romania as a MVP on Friday in Iasi (with which ocasion the new list of Romanian MVPs from all categories was made public), so it's surely official.

I've just seen a short movie with Ovidiu being presented by Microsoft Romania as a MVP on Friday in Iasi (with which ocasion the new list of Romanian MVPs from all categories was made public), Great start, Ovidiu! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

/Edit: Just wondering, is that movie available online?

so it's surely official.Well, I don't doubt that you three have been awarded (and John and I re-awarded, as it seems). It's just that this time, I haven't seen any mail, email or public announcement from Microsoft so far. I just heard about a few ex-MVPs leaving a goodbye-message, since they had received an email about not being awarded again. The only thing I have received so far is the confirmation for my participation at the German MVP Open Days next week - whatever that signifies... ;)

Besides that - some entries have already been removed from the public MVP Awardees list (https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/communities/mvplist.aspx?Product=Visual+Developer+-+Visual+C%2b%2b), but John and I (both April-MVPs) are still on the list. Whatever that means... I'm also still able to access the private MVP website and newsgroups (where the password is changed precisely every quarter) - the only thing that's missing is some active, positive confirmation from Microsoft. That's what I meant when I asked whether it's "official" yet.
gstercken at 2007-11-10 3:58:34 >
# 24 Re: New Microsoft MVPs
I can confirm the three Romanians were officially awarded. I was told this by the US contact when I was out at Redmond a couple of weeks ago. As to John and Guido's renewals - I'd be *shocked* if that didn't happen.

Brad!

/Edit: Just wondering, is that movie available online?
I received it from Ovidiu in 19 emails (:D). I'm not sure, he should know better. ;) But it's in Romanian, not sure if you can understand it. :p Let me summarize it for you: the "gang", which is mostly .NET oriented, was a little bit surprized to have 3 new MVPs (which almost doubled to number of Romanian MVPs under Romanian lead) all coming from VC++ area and all from dev-archive. ;)

and John and I re-awarded, as it seems
I did't expect any other way. Like Brad said, I would have been shocked if you weren't re-awarded. So congratulations to you too.

# 26 Re: New Microsoft MVPs
But it's in Romanian, not sure if you can understand it. :pWell, that's basically the benefit of a movie over a sound file... ;) Besides that: When looking at the Romanian MS website, I have the impression to understand around 60% of the content (Romanian is not sooo far away from Italian or Latin) :)

Let me summarize it for you: the "gang", which is mostly .NET oriented, was a little bit surprized to have 3 new MVPs (which almost doubled to number of Romanian MVPs under Romanian lead) all coming from VC++ area and all from dev-archive. ;)Thank you. :) BTW, have you been to that event, too? And: How many MVPs are you now in Romania? Here in Germany, there's quite a lot, but only a handful are developers - there are much more from other areas such as Office, Windows Shell, Exchange and so on.

I did't expect any other way. Like Brad said, I would have been shocked if you weren't re-awarded. So congratulations to you too.Thank you. But I'm still waiting for the "official" confirmation... :D

Actually, that's a very nice decoration for dev-archive. What's more, if you look at it the other way round: All three new dev-archive MVPs are from Romania! :) :thumb:
Both facts are, IMO, interesting and remarkable.

No, I haven't been there. There are 7 Romanian MVPs under the Romanian program(rememer there are other two, Alin Negru in Canada, and Gabriel Flesheriu in Switzerland), 4 of us being developers.
Both facts are, IMO, interesting and remarkable.
Can't argue with that. ;)
Thank you. But I'm still waiting for the "official" confirmation...
Funny thing is that I tought that confirmation should have happened on April 1st. But since it was week-end, it was probably postponed.

As for Gabriel: I only guessed from his surname that he must be Romanian. However, I fear that he hasn't been renewed this year (his name is one of those who disappeared from the MVP awardees list two days ago).

Yes, Alin was from Timisoara but now lives in Canada. As for Gabriel (who's name I mistyped, it's Fleseriu not Flesheriu), yes, you are right, his name is no longer listed on the VC++ MPV list. Really sorry to see that.

As a humble siplusplus lover, I was so pleasantly surprised being applauded by about two hundreds of dotnet guys, then I forgot my speech and said a simply soft "Thank you!". :)
But you know me, even in dev-archive I never use too many words.

But again, the congratulations and real kudos go to you, Marius and Ovidiu. :thumb: I believe (and that's consistent with what some veteran MVPs told me) that it is much harder to get the MVP award in the first place than to get renewed in subsequent years.
gstercken at 2007-11-10 4:13:48 >
# 39 Re: New Microsoft MVPs
Both of you are on the first page - Nice Dragos ... Nice Cilu... such a long list.. :) CG FAQ Section owes you a lot.. ;)

If Ovidiu splits his name - to Ovidiu Cucu (I guess he would also come up on the first one pushing John Cz to the second :D) .. all the best for splitting and swapping firs/last names.. ;)

Congrats Guido, for the second hit!

Just out of curiosity - how many times a year does this happen? In April, we got Dragos, Marius and Ovidiu winning it.. and some time back we had Sid, Alin, Graham and Kiran winning it... does this event happen twice?

One more doubt - by VC++ do they only mean MFC/ATL/etc?

Guido, a question for you - I looked into you homepage - where you have that amazing CV of yours put up.. :thumb: are you still into freelance consulting? How tough or how easy is it to work on your own (as far as getting business is concerned?)? I like that idea a lot for many reasons:

1. You get to do what you want to do (provided you have options - which I know is not always the case but happens more than working for an employer).
2. You are on your own and don't have to much deal with people you dont want to deal with (in a team/client side/managers - not all are bad but most of them in my belief are quite incompetent)
3. Money - You get what you work for - its not like the company charging something in your name and you getting a small little bit of it.

But it seems it is not very popular in our country ... May be I should have had taken this with you via PM or posted on General Developer Topics.. If that is the case, please point me.. I will do the same. :)

Once again, congrats people for all your efforts. Best Regards.

Microsoft reviews and approves MVP candiates 4 times a year (quarterly). Most of the dev-archive MVPs are January 1st and April 1st awardees.

The current MVPs (myself included) are able to nominate other people we believe fit the award. I generally do a big push for January (which actually means October for getting the names to hte Microsoft MVP Lead). Additionally, the MVP Leads from Microsoft watch this forum (and others).

There is no obligation for those awarded as MVPs to post their profiles publicly on the Microsoft site....Of course not. But IMHO, it's generally a good thing to do (at least if you're not too concerned with absolute anonymity and privacy on the web). The MVP leads strongly encourage publishing our achievements (publications, speech engagements etc.) there.
