Firefox Folder opens at startup
Hello,
I have tried a few things here to fix my own problem, but running out of ideas now. I have also tried doing a search on this, but turned up nothing that could help me. I got a few hits on different windows starting up - but none of the solutions offered worked for me. So I am hoping maybe someone can offer another solution for me.
A folder/window under my username\FireFox just suddenly began to open up on it's own each time I boot up my system and log onto my user account in Windows. I have Windows XP Pro and run Mozilla/Firefox only as my browse. I use PC-Cillin 2006 as my anti-virus by my own preference, and have Spybot S&D and Adaware 6.0 as well. Maintanence is scheduled and run routinely on a daily basis, so unless something very advanced and new has crept it's way into my system (unwelcomed of course) then I am not entirely sure what has caused this folder to open on it's own. I suspect possibly a recent auto-update from Firefox might have triggered this malfunction, but before I go contacting them - I figured I'd stop by here first.
I have tried opening HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run to check out what it is and if I can remove it from starting up, but it's not listed. So I am a bit stumped on how to halt this folder from open up into a Window each time I boot up.
If anyone has something to suggest, I am all ears (or eyes?? lol). Thanks for reading and taking the time to help. I do appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Stephanie aka EyeSpy

Startup items can be in three places...
1. Registry
2. Startup Folder in the Start Menu:Programs:Startup
3. Win.ini
Either you can use msconfig.exe which comes with Windows or download CodeStuff Starter (http://www.fileboost.net/directory/utilities/system/starter/004187/review.html)

No need to download the software, instead check on what he has told above. the best approach. but friend why did you add registry.
Registry just has some information over the product, REGEDIT just gives u the information and his problem is entirely different in what you have stated.

Not true. The registry contains vital information to the operation of Windows. In fact, startup applications are also stored there as stated in the first thread.
Registry is much more than information. It is configuration!

I did steps as provided ... still have not found the cause. I did download the program too (which I like ... much more information provided than StartCop or StartupManager) and I was able to run a info look up on every file running. Nothing listed that I could find was contributing to the cause of the opening window problem. It seems I am also having an issue with my Task Manager being disabled by the administrator (and I am the administrator). I have figured out how to fix that temporarily - but it resets it's value back to 1 in the registry upon system reboot. I have done virus check after virus check with PC-Cillin, AVG, McAfee, and Norton and none of them have turned up anything. So I decided to try another ant-spyware program called Ewido to search the system for something. It found nothing either. Figures. LOL For such a small annoyance, it sure is hard to find what is causing it. Maybe I should contact Firefox and see if they can shine some light on why their main folder keeps opening on system reboot? Any more ideas?
Thanks,

I had a problem with Fx before. I uninstalled it, rebooted, and re-loaded it.
It saved all the settings, so I was nowhere. I repeated my action, but after I rebooted, I looked in \ProgramFiles, and found a Fx TREE of folders. I nuked them and reloaded Fx.
Good as new!

You looked in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but, just a guess, try looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE under Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run and see if there is a key for it there, but if there was a key, it would have shown up in msconfig under the Startup tab.
In any case, whether or not you figure out why, I'd still take it to Firefox. Maybe the same happened to other people? For all I know, it could happen to me too. Both my work and home machine both run the newest version of Firefox, I just don't restart either computer unless I have to (home machine had an uptime of over 3 months before it was restart, only due to power going out in my home).
