Google resource

Brad,
Can you add "Search Google first" to the "Before you post" announcement? There have been a lot of posts lately that I have replied to that the user could have solved if just using Google.

The problem is that most of the new comers don't read that announcement before they post. ;)

Then maybe a new button next to "Post new Topic". :D

What about something like the attached image. All you have to do is CTRL-A, Delete to get rid of it, but it would remind people.

Personally, this would not be an annoyance.

I disagree here. I would find it totally annoying. I'm against such an addition to the settings of the forum.

Sure it would be annoying, but how about a setting to diable it, that way only the people who know this forum can disable it and newcomers still see a suggestion of searching.

Or may be like what is shown in the Quick Reply box.. the text is seen there but as soon as you enable the box - it disappears.. like - onFocus - that text is removed. That won't be a problem.. and we can give a scolding about - "Did you not read that message before posting" :D

That or enabling it for users with less than say 50-100 posts. Newbs that is. :D

Yes, remove on focus would be a fine feature indeed.

Should we bid more and ask for banners that consume less processor and don't jam Firefox/IE? :D

The onfocus() call to get rid of it is so simple. This would take about 1 minute to do!

I had brougth up the same issue in here ( http://www.dev-archive.com/forum/showthread.php?t=294876). If this feature did exist, peejavery wouldn't have to start this thread ;)
