Free Mick now!
What gives? This is BS. Why is Mick banned? What absurd reason would justify getting him banned?
/coders should not fear the forums, it is the forums that should fear the coders.
# 1 Re: Free Mick now!
Mick will be freed I guess, I do not know any reasoning behind banning him, but I think that it is only temporary ban, for one day, week or something. The question is, will he ever come back after this hapened. I bet that he sent very juicy reply to 'This is automated message, please do not reply: You are temporarily banned...' email.

I think this is what he wanted - he could take it no longer.
He committed Moderator Suicide.
It was hard at the end, but he is happy now.
He said "everything is OK now, everything is OK".

No way! I also don't think that Mick should be banned. Just wondering if someone can help explaning why. Or it is that Mick has wandered too far off into the X-Files region?

He aired some dirty laundry about cilu and ovi... they pushed each other's ratings up back in the day and the powers that be in CG don't like that :) .
# 6 Re: Free Mick now!
I don't think it is too serious to get hum ban. Just some warnings and everything else should be okay.

Did Cilu and Ovi cheat their ways to get ratings?

Yes they did.
That and ovi was trying to be cute at one point and decided to give me negative ratings... thinking he could get away (remember the time when the ratings didn't have a name attached to them? yeh), but when Brad turned on the names, you could se who did what :) and I knew :) .

Well, that's not even the best part. I could understand if it was something like on an actual question someone had asked and I gave a non-sensical response, but this was in chit-chat and I believe in that never-ending thread (don't remember.) I posted something and bingo, negative rating :) .
# 11 Re: Free Mick now!
Thats a bit of a worry.

# 12 Re: Free Mick now!
Thats a bit of a worry.
Ya :) . And now he's a mod. There was another little punk that gave me a negative rating for no reason... the name escapes me at the moment, I'd get it if I could review my ratings from the past better.
But he's not the only 'issue' (if you can put it that way.)
I do believe that Brad inadvertedly played a role in CG's 'decline'. He's just not around as often on CG. It seems that the corporation that runs this forum has become detached from the member that use it. The first sign for me was with the new advertising scheme :) , the whole thing worked well under the old one. I'm not going to go off on some retarted socialist wet-dream that everything should be free blah blah blah. dev-archive's operator is a company, a for-profit company, who have employees and stakeholders to answer to, so it's expected that they make a buck. And I can dig that. Brad has two young kids and it wouldn't surprise me if he's already planning for their college and such (which takes $$$.) Employees are expected to be paid, but alienating alot of people in order to make a few bucks extra was a short-sighted move :( .
That and it seems that Brad not around as often... just not here. It would be best to have someone who can be here more often and supervise the forum more closely (otherwise the mistake of making ovi and cilu mods would have never happened.) I can digg if Brad is simply busy with other things that might go on, we all take twists and turns in our professional lives and if he's busy with other stuff, that's not necessarily a bad thing, just need someone who's here more often.
But don't get me wrong, Brad did do good things for this place. When CG first started out, it wasn't as spify (as I remember from one of the many conversations that I've read before.) During that time, CG became not just a coders' forum, but _the_ coders' forum. So ya, he did lots of good back in the day.
And I don't blame him for the rating system, when it first came out it was new, it was cool, it was a new toy (remember the first cellphone?) Mick didn't like it, but plenty of others did :D and by pure popularity, the idea has won over. But ya, some people don't like it now and I think I understand why, it became all about egos :( and not as much about coding.
I'd probably say that the fact that the powers that be in CG have simply become too detached from the members here and got senior members like Mick a tad peeved, so they bounced, which isn't a good thing when n00bs try to move on to more complex coding ventures and those experts are not there to guide them :( .

Mick is not banned permanently. And just to make it clear, I wasn't the one that banned him, even though he said false things about me, that I used multiple usernames here and gave him negative reputation points. For the rest I will not comment, since it's not about me.

I banned him because he started spamming General Discussion with always the same post in new threads and as answer to unrelated threads. In the AUP it's called flooding:
You will not post messages that are clearly outside of the stated topic of any Forums nor disrupt a forum by deliberately posting repeated irrelevant messages or copies of identical messages (also known as "flooding").

you can't blame to Brad.if you have any Problem you Directly can report to Brad and he is only the responsible person for resolving your person and he perform his duty in a Efficient manner apart from Brad all moderator are waste(except some) if you send them some message they don't have time to read The messages. They always try to show Their greatness.and i think This activity names as banned should handle by BRAD only instead of others .if some moderator will misbehave with you you can't do anything if you do means you are banned.that's now fair. and Negative rating also disable by brad for this only. But i don't know why he is given this power to moderator that he can do what ever he want. like all other cgians they also send message to Brad to give negative rating to a person.and i Don't think why anyone pinch to each other these days. are we all come here to share our knowledge to learn new things we can proceed in a efficient manner .Anyway here i am not agree with Moderator why Yves M banned mick .Did a Single time he inform to mick that Don't Do this.and for why he is a moderator if mick make some time different thread for some post he has to power to mix the thread.
Thanx

As a former moderator Mick knows very well the rules here (as stated in the Acceptable Use Policy). When you create a username, you have to check a checkbox that says you know and accept the use policy. Moderators are not here to explain to every member what the rules are and how he should behave. We just make sure that the rules are followed.

Yes he was fully aware of what he was doing and I was exchanging PMs with him telling him that he shouldn't continue.

Ok I think that last thread by Mick was really intense...I did not think we 'the educated' so called Software Engineers would pull up such issues. After having read that thread I think CG has really gone Crapper. Again this thread!
I think we should forget this matter and let time to cool things off.
# 20 Re: Free Mick now!
To repeat what was said -
- Mick was banned for spamming and profanity. Had I personally done the ban, it would have been for a much longer period because he knows better.
- If someone has an issue with a specific rating, bring it up with me - before making a public issue of it.
- I'm here about as much as I've always been. There is actually a second person (JPnyc) that is here quite regularly and gets most forum notifications as well. He is responsible for all Jupitermedia forums. As such, there is actually more eyes on dev-archive now than there were in the past. I tend to let the moderators respond to more posts now.
And finally, anyone that wants to make serious suggestions should post in Feedback. Joe and I read it as do a few others at Jupitermedia. Be aware, that everything in Feedback is emailed directly to me and several others, so we see what is said. Even though I might not directly respond, there is a good chance I'm working on whatever issues are brought up.
Brad!

Until JM contacts YOUR ISP, requesting that they 1) Send a message to all their customers, giving them your name and address, and then 2) Inform your ISP that THEY are banned from all JM sites.
Hope none of their customers are users... :)

Yikes, this is the third similair discussion I met during couple of days, but others were on other forums. Well what`s happen with you guys, you begin to act like politics, you are not in senate, so we need to forget all your claims, and back to work. About rating this thing is nice but if you are real guru you don`t care (this is my personal opinion). So I ask you to stop acting in destructive way with each other.

Some of you know how this turns out :D
So ya
Thought ya
Might like to
Go to the show
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow
I got me some bad news for you sunshine
Mick isn't well he stayed back at the hotel
And they've sent us along as a surrogate band
We're gonna find out where you fans
Really stand
Are there any queers in the theatre tonight
Get 'em up against the wall
There's one in the spotlight
He don't look right to me
Get him up against the wall
That one looks Jewish
And that one's a coon
Who let all this riffraff into the room
There's one smoking a joint and
Another with spots
If I had my way
I'd have all of you shot

Lets clarify shall we :D. I said there were a number of romanians that gamed the rating system. The number was six, and six was the number :D You see, the rotation was six and there were six guys who thought they would like to rotate. Three or four (who knows it was long ago) no longer visit dear CG. What after we told them to knock it off :D And yes, cilu you got a good ride out of that.
Never said anything about negative rep points, though one of those userid's did give me and YSG a negative for posting a link to iraqi bloggers (imagine that). One of two, even Brad was surprised that I didn't get more :D
/Cause I'm so controversial
