[RESOLVED] Cant connect with a computer
Hello.
A computer (call it "A") with Windows XP Pro can enter in all the shared folders of all the computers in the LAN and can see all the computers in the LAN.
However nobody can enter in the shared folders of A. The strange thing is that A appears in the list of computers in the LAN but when you click in the A icon a message box is show saying that "the computer A was not found"
What can I do? I need to access A from the other computers.
The other computers also have Win XP.

Well you are the Doctor of Light, you tell me.
Just kidding. Have you checked to make sure services are running such as workstation and server?

Might see if some firewall is blocking them.
# 3 Re: [RESOLVED] Cant connect with a computer
There is not any firewall or servers involved.
# 4 Re: [RESOLVED] Cant connect with a computer
Did you check services?

Did you check services?
Sorry. don't have any remote idea about what services you are talking about.

1. Go to the Control Panel.
2. Open Administrative Tools.
3. Select Services.
Are any disabled there?

Windows XP has a built in firewall that can block people from accessing the computer remotley. If you check out your network connections you should see your adapter. If it has a lock on the right top side of your adapter then it means your firewall is enabled. just disable the firewall.

Yes, but the Windows internal firewall should not be affecting a network set up directly by Windows.

I have found that it will. Like the remote install program for CA will report computer not found because the windows firewall is turned on. The same error he is getting i have gotten before. Not saying that is the problem but I am just giving him a starting place. By default the windows firewall blocks all access to the computer.

Very interesting!

I will check again firewalls and services and tell you. Thank you.

The problem was the antivirus.
I thought there was not any firewall software installed in A. It was my mistake because the antivirus (Panda Titanium 2005) has its own built-in firewall.
Although all the options in the firewall allowed network and internet communications, the configuration for the network card was the problem. You can choose two options depending on the task that the network card is doing. These options are Internet and Network. By default it was selected Internet. I changed to Network, and B started to work properly.
Thank you very much for your help.
