Microsoft MVPs - summit question

For those of you that are Microsoft MVPs -
Are you going to the summit? What hotel are you going to try to stay at?
Brad!

Yes, I plan to be there. :)

It'll be great if those who have an experience at previous summits supply recommendations and ideas on hotels, proximities, locations et al... ;)

Don't think I will be attending either. Hard to get leave when I have already take 5 weeks just recently. Would like to look at the agenda and see if I can squeeze in a day or 2 at least.
kirants at 2007-11-9 13:03:03 >
# 4 Re: Microsoft MVPs - summit question
Well, I'll be attending in any case. :)

Regarding hotels: I would generally suggest to take hotels downtown Seattle (and not in Bellevue): Although it's nearer to the Microsoft campus, I had the impression that the shuttle service that commutes between the hotels and the MS campus is quicker, in the end, than the one from Bellevue (besides that, you would miss the daily splendid ride over Evergreen Point floating bridge :)).

Last time, I've been at the Westin Seattle - I can only recommend that hotel. If you get a room at the upper floors, you usually have a fantastic view over Seattle. :)

In any case: It would be great if all CG MVPs who attend would manage to stay at the same hotel.
gstercken at 2007-11-9 13:04:07 >
# 5 Re: Microsoft MVPs - summit question
I prefer Bellevue since it is closer to the Microsoft campus, but the hotels are all in Seattle this year. The Grand Hyatt was the hotel recommended in the VC++ group (and a few other groups...). I'd be ok with the Westin as well.
Brad Jones at 2007-11-9 13:05:08 >
# 6 Re: Microsoft MVPs - summit question
Both Westin and the Grand Hyatt are not far from each other (and are both seemingly tall structures :D ). So, as far as location and other details go - there may not be too much of a difference.

However, I see that the GH has a better star rating than Westin (or am I mistaken)?

It's popularity among other MVPs can also be a plus... :)

(BTW, GH seems to welcome those that smoke... ;) )

So, I presume Brad was talking about the one in Seattle downtown?

So, I presume Brad was talking about the one in Seattle downtown?Yes - like Brad said: All the hotels available to MVPs for the 2007 summit are in downtown Seattle - so the question "Seattle or Bellevue" doesn't arise this time. :)

GH was taken up by the time I logged into the registration site (only 2 hours after I got the email!).

So, I settled for Westin. :)

Hope I get the room with a good view... :D

I got my email a couple of hours ago but at VBF, the other MVPs are still alseep lol.
It was stated that there will be shuttle bus service from the 7 hotels to the events. What happens if all the designated hotels are booked?

Hey, whats with the 7 am breakfast time. :(

# 13 Re: Microsoft MVPs - summit question
What happens if all the designated hotels are booked?I think it is a little too early to worry about this problem. ;)

The hotels in question are pretty big, and even if 25% of the MVP-population makes it to the Summit, they wont even amount to a requirement of 1000 accomodations. That's really not much.

07:00 am breakfast time... Wow, this really sucks! :D

As I already informed some of you, I'll be there. After reading this thread I decided to register for Westin starting from Sunday. I suppose it will be possible to stay one more night at own expenses. Right know I'm not sure what flight back to Romania I'll have available on Thursday.

BTW, I also made it this year. Not sure if I am going for the summit though. March is a very busy month for me. I am trying to find out if my company will treat it as "sports leave" (or similar) if I decide to attend. Any more new MVPs from CG this year ?

No, but your flight may have a stop at New York.

I've started looking for flights yesterday. It isn't very easy to get one from Timisoara to Seattle. Actually the problem is at return, all the flight that have a connection to Timisoara are in the morning. I found one that leaves at 19:30 from Seattle, but its for Budapest. So I might have to take it from there. ;)

"We"?
Yes, I work for Emirates. There are no direct flights from Heidelberg to Seattle anyway so you would have to change flights in at least one city.

Just mentioned it in case any one is in Hamburg. Taking our flight can get you to Seattle with one change in New York.

BTW. That was a picture of the business class seat. The first class seat is far bigger. In first and business class you get your own 19 inch touch-screen ( 9 inch in economy class). You get a selection of over 130 movies, 60 TV channels , 40 video games etc. It's a great way to kill time while travelling. See www.emirates.com (http://www.emirates.com/) to book online. :)

I decided to go as well. I have some family commitments which require my presence in India around the middle of March. I think I can finesse the dates and manage both. I will be there unless some unexpected factor forces me to change my plans.

Uff... This is really unfortunate, Abhishek. :)

I could do no justice to Delhi this time and I have to return to this great city!
So, the next time I am able to make it, I'll send a PM too - at the least. :D

Brad, this is a bug with the subscribed threads functionality... it doesn't work right always... it just cost me a meet with Sid... :(

Off topic: We will be upgrading the forum software soon. Let's see if that improves (or hurts...) this. (we are currently updating VBForums.com).

Going back to the topic, does anyone of you know how is the weather usually during this part of the year? According to wunderground.com temperatures will be between 5-10 degrees Celsius, and with high changes for rain.

I'm wondering what clothes I should bring. ;)

I would carry regular / autumn clothes and an umbrella... :)

Probably a sweater too - so that coming back home gets easy... :D

Microsoft did an online presentation about the summit that included weather information. In general, rain in Seattle is more drizzly rather than downpours. I don't remember the URL for the webcast, but you can likely find it from the MVP site.

Just a quick reminder for those of you coming from outside U.S. (based on previous experience): Don't forget to bring an AC plug adapter - or you'll have serious problems connecting your laptops / cell phone chargers / whatever. :)

Getting such an adapter in Seattle is apparently not so easy: The one they gave me at the hotel reception desk was a strange contraption which also (needlessly) included a 110V / 230V converter, and had a blown fuse which I had to bridge with a spring from a ball pen... :) And the "traveller accessories" shop at the hotel had adapters - but interestingly, the wrong ones (for people with U.S. connectors visting Europe... ) :)

I have a few light denim shirts I'm bringing with me. If I have your name and know your size, then you'll likely get one if you are there (doesn't hurt to remind me via email of that info <G>).

I'll likely wear my tan CG shirt Monday since that will make it easier to be recognized.

I'll hang around the Starbucks in the Central Terminal if we don't see each other near a gate. Anyone that wants to meet up there, can feel free to join :).

My flight arrives at 11:11am. Anyone else arriving give or take an hour? If so, post what time you expect to arrive.

I'll be arriving on Saturday evening (I'm leaving in 8 hours), so I should have one day to see the city. ;)

Like I said earlier, I'll be arriving Sunday at 15:25 - and I'm up to anything (well, almost) between then and Monday morning. :) Just PM / email / SMS me (most of you should have my cell phone number).

Okay, so it'll be the tan CG shirts for Monday... :)

I have arrived at Seattle. As expected, it rains. It seems however that my PDA phone does not work here in USA, though it works just fine in Europe and Asia. It does not find any network, which is a big bummer. And I wanted to bring a second cell with me. ;)

When it rains it pours. ;)

I'm now at Amsterdam, waiting for boarding to SEA - long queue (FIFO, for you others. ;) )

@Marius: Have you tried manual network scan?

See ya... :)

In Seattle it is often more like, "When it rains it drizzles..."

I have checked in at the Westin. Manual network scan does not work. I think it's the phone. It's made in Asia, might not work here. I know other models that don't.

i'll be in seattle around 21:15 local time today. if anyone is up for something tonight let me know (PM, email), otherwise we'll meet tomorrow.

I am checked in at the Westin... Am at room 4332 with a wonderful view (photo of the view comes later :p).

Alin, which hotel are you in again? We could all meet over dinner - just a proposal - applies to all CG-members in the Seattle. Cilu was not reachable on the phone and the Service could not determine if Brad was checked-in.

I'll be away taking a walk in the city in a few moments... (for a change, it is not raining :D).

I am wondering as to where people caught up in FIFOs are at the moment... ;) :D

// Edit - Okay... Here is the view from the desk I am writing this message from...

Ah, Sid, looks like we had the same idea... :D

I've just checked in - I'm in room 4337 (North tower), so just a few rooms next to yours... :) However, I can't see the Space Needle from my room (but I can look down to the South tower - hi Marius!;))... Here's my view:

Now let me just take a quick shower, then I'll try to contact you... :)

i'll be in seattle around 21:15 local time today. Hm... So where are you now, Alin? If 21:15 is the actual touchdown time of your flight, than you can easily add 2..3 hrs for immigration stuff, customs, picking up luggage, shuttle from airport to hotel etc. until you finally reach the hotel. Just drop a message when you're somewhere. :)
