I'm writing to request your help in my research concerning User Participation in Virtual Communities.

I've been a lurker on dev-archive for almost two years now and as an apps developer, I found the forums extremely helpful.

Needless to say, I've now toggled into academic mode and am pursuing behavioral research in Information Systems.

As part of my research, I am investigating different types of online communities. Specifically, through an exploratory study of various online communities, I'm hoping to identify technological and sociological factors that can help enhance and sustain user participation in online communities.

Being an old lurker on dev-archive, I think this will make for a great site to look at. I'm hoping that you all here can share your reasons to be a particpant in the dev-archive online community and also your experiences in the time that you've spent here. This will be extremely valuable for my research.

I'm currently in the initial stages of my research and the questions I'm starting with are fairly open-ended. These will be refined at later stages.
