[RESOLVED] Some questions...

There is an option when you post something:

Rate Thread
If you like, you can add a score for this thread.
Choose a rating 5 : Excellent 4 : Good 3 : Average 2 : Bad 1 : Terrible

Well, what is this for?

For everyone that responds to a question there is a "rate this post" link, where you say if you approve it or not, and comments... What's the difference between them... And how can I get more reputation?

Oh, and by the way, what is a poll?

and what are the codes for smileys?

Some of your questions are answered in FAQ (http://www.dev-archive.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain) ;)

By "Rate this post", you rate individual post of someone, which add value to the poster's reputation, whereas "Rate Thread" is related to the entire thread, and you can give your opinion as per provided options.

Your reputation raises as you post good solutions to people's problems. Then others will rate your post. That gives you higher reputation. However, if you aren't posting good solutions, your reputation will never go up.
