_ (underscore) in forum search
I had tried searching the discussion forums for application_exit,
which gave me a bunch of posts that didn't include that
word. I'm guessing that the _ character goofed up the search. Is it
possible to search for a word with an underscore in it?

Worked fine for me, when I search for application_exit, your thread ( this Thread ) was the very first result, and it highlighted the search terms as well ( in this case, application_exit ) in red.
perhaps, it also included threads / posts with the words application and exit. Have you tried the advanced Search, perhaps you get better results
For example, If you go to http://www.dev-archive.com/forum/search.php
Then enter the term application_exit in the Search by Key Word, Key Word(s) field, and select Search Titles only, you'd get 3 results.
