Java Books

I am new to java and was wondering, what are the best books in the market for learning it ? I have a good C++ background and I'd like the book to focus more on syntax and how the code works.

'Thinking In Java' ( http://www.dev-archive.com/java/tij/) is a good primer, and it's free online from this very site :)

There does not now, nor will there ever exist, a programming language in which it is the least bit hard to write bad programs...
