ld: Mismatched ABI (not an ELF file) for -llibxerces-c1_1.sl

I am getting the following error:
ld: Mismatched ABI (not an ELF file) for -llibxerces-c1_1.sl
Fatal error.
*** Error exit code 1
Can anybody please suggest what the error might be? Is it because of a missing library?
